Reclaiming Jurisdiction with Community at the Centre
James Smith Cree Nation has begun the process of developing its own child and family services system under An Act Respecting First Nations, Inuit and Métis Children, Youth and Families (Bill C-92). This project supports the Nation’s vision of a future where JSCN children are cared for in a system built on our values, language, and kinship networks.
The work is guided by the James Smith Cree Nation Bill C-92 Committee and includes:

Working Group Goals
The goals of the James Smith Cree Nation Bill C-92 Working Groups include:

Support the drafting of child and family laws that reflect JSCN identity, culture, and traditions

Participate in regular meetings and discussions

Ensure community needs remain at the forefront of planning and implementation

Who We're Looking For
The James Smith Cree Nation Bill C-92 Working Groups is looking for:

Elders, youth, parents, and professionals with lived or professional experience in child and family services

Anyone with knowledge of Bill C-92 or a strong interest in learning
-
Members grounded in James Smith Cree Nation culture, language, and teachings
-
2SLGBTQIA+ members are strongly encouraged to apply
